Course Description:

This course is offered by Volatus Aerospace Corp. through its wholly owned subsidiary, Skygate Videography Inc. Skygate Videography Inc. is a registered Private Vocational Institution (PVI) under the Private Training Schools Act of the Province of Prince Edward Island. This PVI designation permits Skygate Videography Inc. to provide graduates of its registered courses with officially recognised Certificates of Completion, provided that all course requirements are met. The Professional RPAS Operational Skills course follows a hybrid learning model consisting of mandatory self-paced e-learning lessons and four in-person theoretical and practical learning modules.

The primary objective of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed as professional drone pilots.

The Professional RPAS Operational Skills Diploma is comprised of the following course modules:

Aerial Cinematography (2 days)

Cinematography is the most established and accessible drone industry vertical for professional pilots. This 2-day training module begins with the fundamental concepts and practical skills required for professional drone operations. It then builds to address knowledge requirements and practical skills specific to creative media, including best practices for aerial photo and film, standard operating procedures for general and on-set environments, and advanced piloting techniques.

Principles of Drone Inspections (2 days)

In this 2-day training module, students will be introduced to thermal and optical inspection principles and measurement systems for predictive maintenance applications. Students will learn best practices for collecting inspection-grade optical and thermal imaging data, how to interpret accurate temperature readings, and how to account for measurement effects such as distance and emissivity.

Drone Photogrammetry (2 days)

This 2-day training module introduces students to the fundamental concepts of drone mapping. Students will begin by learning to address the in-field portion of the photogrammetry workflow, covering mission planning, automated and manual data collection, and quality control standards. It also provides an overview of photogrammetry data processing and output file formats.

Drone LiDAR Data Acquisitions (2 days)

This 2-day training module applies the fundamentals of drone mapping to LiDAR data collection. It covers the full aerial LiDAR data collection workflow, introducing students to LiDAR mission planning, sensor calibration, flight operations, quality control, and data.
