With the Emlid Reach RS4 All-Band RTK GNSS Receiver, everything just got better, no flaws, no compromises. Fieldwork becomes faster, more flexible, and more reliable. Compared to the Emlid Reach RS3, the RS4 offers several improvements, including up to 16 hours of operation on a single charge, allowing work all day without interruption. When needed, it can be quickly recharged via a USB-C power bank. And here's what else has been improved…
Improved Tilt Compensation Algorithm
5× Faster Tilt Compensation - RS4’s next-gen IMU activates in just a few moves (5–7 seconds).
Quick Release Mount
Backlash free thread designed specifically for tilt workflows, ensuring accuracy even under pole tilt.
All-Band Support and New Antenna
Tracks all bands, including L1/L2/L5/L6, 672 channels, providing greater multipath resistance and able to work even under a canopy!
Fully Functional Dual Band Radio System
This means that the UHF bands can also be used to send corrections, and also comes with license support for radios. UHF radios support transmission power of up to 2W, but the exact allowable power level depends on local country regulations and often requires a licence. The LoRa radio supports transmission power of up to 1W, and the maximum output varies by country. However, LoRa is optimised to remain within licence-free limits in most regions.
Even More Durable
The RS4 is made from a new premium material - a magnesium alloy, which is often used in the manufacture of aerospace and medical equipment, as well as high-end electronics. It also features an IP68 rating and a wider operating temperature range of -40 to +65°C.
Problem the Reach RS4 Solves
- Getting Accurate Results in Challenging Environments - Dense canopies, reflective urban areas, and construction sites often disrupt GNSS reception due to multipath interference or a lack of signal.
- Team Scalability - Large scale projects and construction sites generate a high volume of everyday surveying tasks, but professional surveyors are not always available to carry out all of these tasks.
How It's Solved
- Great GNSS Performance - Taking into account all the hardware and firmware improvements, the RS4 can obtain cm-accurate coordinates almost anywhere. It can work in forests, deal with interference on construction sites, and compensate for tilt. Its robust design also helps it survive these harsh conditions. And let's not forget the quick-release mount, the first of its kind designed specifically for tilting. When a device on a pole is tilted, it often tilts even further due to its own weight if not secured tightly. The quick-release mount eliminates this issue.
- Software Ecosystem and Simplicity – These two components are crucial for successful teamwork. RS4 comes with Emlid Flow, which provides an intuitive interface for device configuration, data collection, and collaboration. This makes the devices accessible to the entire team, including those without surveying backgrounds. This approach does not exclude surveyors from the target audience, their expertise remains essential on every construction site. Surveyors continue to oversee and perform critical field work, while the RS4’s easy-to-learn, user-friendly design helps streamline routine tasks for the broader team, allowing surveyors to focus on higher-level responsibilities.
Value for Users & use-Cases
- Land surveying & Construction - As noted above, the Reach RS4 combined with Emlid Flow delivers all the tools required for advanced surveying tasks, including rapid design layouts, topographical surveys, as-builts, and small road construction projects. In addition, the system offers robust teamwork features. The RS4 is designed for individual land surveyors who want to expand the range of projects they can handle, as well as surveyor managers in construction firms who are responsible for evaluating new equipment and addressing operational challenges.
- Drone Mapping - The Reach RS4 can also function as a reliable base station for drone operations, providing accurate GNSS corrections for aerial surveys and photogrammetry projects. This ensures high-precision mapping results and smoother workflows for teams using drones for construction, land development, agriculture, or inspection tasks.
