Last week the City of Fulton announced seventeen approved projects as part of its Downtown Revitalization Funding through New York State. The state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is an annual economic development program, supporting the rejuvenation of downtowns and spurring economic growth.
In August 2019, the City of Fulton was selected to receive $10 million in economic support.
Located on the Oswego River and home to an area of rich history, recent development has set the stage for Fulton to develop vacant sites and enhance its natural and cultural attractions.
Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul expressed, “This is going to launch the city of Fulton into a great, new brighter future.”
The news of approved projects came with moderate surprise due to the delay in planning and selection of projects due to COVID-19. Final slate projects were submitted to the state for approval in March of 2020.
The selection process followed a thorough year plus of review and coordination between local and state officials, residents and a state-hired consulting firm. The strategic process aims at making selections to best empower local communities and improve the quality of downtown life.
Empire Drone is extremely grateful to be chosen among a cohort of applicants helping bring a vibrant mix of businesses and improved infrastructure to downtown Fulton.
Fulton has a population of just over 11,000 and is not thought to have the largest footprint. This DRI funding has the potential to make a substantial impact on the community strengthening infrastructure for local businesses and recreational growth.
